New Holland continues to expand into its newest category of construction equipment, the small articulated loader.

The newly released ML35T and ML50T also come with extra reach and height, thanks to a telescopic boom. That’s what the “T” in the model number stands for.

New Holland and sister company Case entered the SAL market in 2023 following an agreement with Tobroco-Giant to build the small loaders. New Holland now has six SALs, with the new models representing the largest in the lineup.

CHS has announced an autonomous vehicle pilot program for North Dakota. CHS Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer David Black made the announcement at the Grand Farm event.

CHS uses a follow-me model with its current pilot project in Minnesota. The second vehicle has a safety driver in the seat, but the vehicle is doing the actual driving.

Black sees demand for a system like this. "All of us, especially in agriculture, see challenges with driver shortages and being able to find safe, quality, licensed drivers in space so we really want to take our time and prove out the pilot," said Black. "We see this running for a year or two in North Dakota."

Develon has rolled out its smallest mini excavator yet, the 4,200-pound DX17Z-7.

The new model comes equipped with a retractable undercarriage and a collapsible dozer blade, allowing it to enter spaces less than 5 feet wide. Coupled with the 48-inch track width, the zero tailswing design makes it easy to work on confined jobsites or up against structures. When fully expanded, the tracks provide stability for working over the side or on slopes, the company says.

Texas is the only corn-growing state experiencing D3 extreme drought. Kansas and Colorado are experiencing D2 severe drought conditions. North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska are dealing with D1 moderate drought across some of their acres.

The dairy industry needs to put aside "cultural and operational differences" and begin broadly testing cows and workers for highly pathogenic avian influenza, three veterinarians say in an opinion piece in Scientific American that warns of devastating consequences without quick action.

"Turkey and egg-laying farms are in peril, as bovine flu, which is caused by a specific strain of H5N1 ..., has infected these birds at alarming rates," they say in the magazine. "We have lost more than 13 million laying hens in the U.S. in the past two months. And if we do not control this virus, it will soon be too difficult or expensive to produce eggs or raise turkeys."

The National Corn Growers Association, American Farm Bureau Federation and six auto dealers representing 16 brands and collectively operating dozens of dealerships in major markets across the country joined the American Petroleum Institute today in filing a lawsuit in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals challenging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's light-duty and medium-duty vehicle emissions standards for model years 2027-2032.

The groups said EPA exceeded its congressional authority with the regulation and rendered a decision that values one tool for fighting climate change over others.

Despite recent progress on the 2024 Farm Bill -- including passage of the House Agriculture Committee's version of the bill and competing frameworks released in the Senate Agriculture Committee -- lawmakers in recent days have been hinting that passage of a full Farm Bill in 2024 is growing more unlikely and that another extension of the 2018 Farm Bill remains the most likely outcome before an end of September deadline.

Agri-Pulse's Steve Davies, Philip Brasher, Noah Wicks, and Rebekah Alvey reported this past Friday that "a farm bill doesn't appear to be headed anywhere in the Senate, even though Ag Committee Republicans have now outlined their proposal. Senate Ag Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., doesn't think the House Ag Committee's bill can pass the House and fears a Senate bill could face the same fate, she says on this week's Agri-Pulse Newsmakers."

The Environmental Protection Agency announced today that it will grant the request by eight Midwestern governors to allow the year-round sale of fuel with a 15% ethanol blend, or E15, in their states beginning in the summer of 2025.

The announcement was welcomed by the National Corn Growers Association, which has been fighting to break down barriers to the environmentally friendly biofuels.
