| Shoe-tying and cowboy boots
I am not a cowboy, but I do have the boots — or at least I used to.
Here’s the story. For one reason or another, I was late to the game in learning how to tie my shoes. In fact, I was the only kid in my kindergarten class who had not figured it out. It wasn’t due to a lack of effort on my part. I tried and tried to learn how to properly assemble those shoelaces. All I ended up doing was tying strings around my fingers. It was frustrating, even for a 5-year-old.
What I lacked in fine motor skills I made up for in ingenuity. I had a solution — cowboy boots. Yes, cowboy boots. Simple to put on. Simple to take off. And none of those annoying shoelaces. They weren’t fashion-friendly with shorts, but I mostly went barefoot in the summer months anyway. When the school year rolled around, this kid looked like Roy Rogers.
In case you are wondering, I wasn’t a farm kid. I grew up in town, so I was apparently urban cowboy before urban cowboy was cool. But a trendsetter, I was not. No other kid in my class wore cowboy boots, not even the farm kids. They all knew how to tie their shoes.
I eventually learned this life skill, sometime in the first grade. I may not remember the exact date, but I know it was a glorious moment. After a few years of others showing me how easy this was, I finally figured it out. Something just clicked, and then I proudly showed everyone how I could tie my shoes. Most didn’t understand my moment of pride, but that’s OK. They also didn’t wear cowboy boots to kindergarten class every day.
Have a terrific Tuesday, and thanks for reading.

| | Bagley fills council and clerk vacancies | | | | | | By Rich Wicks | Times Vedette
During the June 3 regular meeting, the Bagley City Council filled the vacant city clerk position and the one vacant seat on the council. Former councilmember Janett Bennett was the only citizen to submit interest in filling the vacancy and was unanimously approved by the council. She was sworn in by Mayor Glen Foresman and immediately sat with the rest of the council.
Regarding the clerk vacancy, Mayor Foresman said he feels the city needs to offer a higher wage to attract and keep someone in the role. He said the previous wage was $16.25 per hour, but he suggested $25, or at least something in the $21-$23 range.

| | Late surge fuels Panorama over Woodward-Granger, 11-10 | | | | | | By Cyote Williams | Times Vedette
On Friday, May 31, the Panorama baseball team (2-6) picked up its second win of the season thanks to some late heroics away from home against Woodward-Granger (2-6). Panorama took the lead in the top of the fifth inning to go up 4-1, only to give up six runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Panthers responded with a seven-run inning in the top of the sixth to regain the lead and eventually win. A big part of the win can be credited to second baseman Braylon Dawes. In five at-bats, the senior hit six singles, stole two bases and scored three runs. Two runs came from Trey Boettcher and Brayden Meinecke. Parker Cary, Brayden Galvan, Mason Carstens and Laytyn Ashworth each scored once. Braylon and Bryce Dawes split time on the mound. Braylon was credited the win in his two innings pitched.

Tegan Slaybaugh and Andrew Mahaffey split time on the mound. Mahaffey pitched four innings and struck out three batters. Slaybaugh pitched the other two innings, recording five strikeouts.
