Caterpillar Acquires Monarch Tractor

Caterpillar is moving into the autonomous tractor business, acquiring California-based Monarch Tractor, according to an April 14, 2026 Bloomberg report.

Jon Rossi, founder of Digital Iron Group, noted that “at first glance it looks like a nice niche ag-tech deal. They’re buying a head start in autonomy plus software integration. With a presumably discounted price, Caterpillar buys the IP, technology and remaining staff.

60% of U.S. Now Facing Moderate to Exceptional Drought

The latest drought monitor shows three-quarters of the U.S. is now dealing with some level of drought or dryness. Of that, 60% falls in the D1 moderate drought to D4 exceptional drought categories, the highest level since November 2022. To put it in perspective, drought coverage has only exceeded 60% about 30 times in recent history, 25 of those during the widespread drought of 2012 and 2013.
