| Roll over and get some shut-eye
Could you use a good night’s sleep? You are not alone.
We Americans tend to spend about a third of our lives in bed, but 164 million of us struggle to actually get to sleep. That’s right, more than two-thirds of us fail to get some serious shut-eye at least once per week. Sound familiar?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 36.5% of U.S. workers get less than seven hours of sleep. We do seem to be searching for solutions, though. In fact, Consumer Reports shares that 41% of people use over-the-counter sleep aids several times a week.
Meanwhile, according to the Sleep Foundation, only 1 in 10 Americans consider sleep to be their top priority over fitness, work, hobbies and social life.
That’s a lot of statistics — and not much sleep. If only the fix was easy. Far from it. More than 70 types of sleep disorders exist with the most common ones being insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, movement syndromes and narcolepsy.
Did you know humans are the only mammals that delay sleep? When other mammals are tired, they sleep. It works for my dog. Not so much for me. In my younger years, I enjoyed a Sunday afternoon nap while watching the Minnesota Vikings lose another close one on TV. Not anymore. Any sleeping after the noon whistle means this guy is up into the wee hours of the morning.
But what about the snoring thing? My wife tells me it’s a problem. Once again, I am not alone. In fact, nearly half (48%) of Americans ADMIT they snore, according to the American Sleep Association. Jolene has a two-part solution: a not-so-gentle poke and some clear advice to “roll over.” The dog gets a treat for rolling over. I get a bruise.
Admittedly, the fetal position does seem to subdue snoring. This may be why it is the most popular sleeping position with 41% of adults choosing to do so, compared to sleeping on the side (28%), lying on the back (8%), and lying on the stomach (7%), according to Sleep.org.
If you want to sleep better (and who doesn’t), try these tips: cool down your bedroom, get on a regular sleep schedule, turn off the electronics, avoid caffeine and read something that makes you relax. Then be ready to roll over.
Have a terrific Tuesday, and thank you for reading.

| Guthrie County Supervisors hear tax concerns
Dickson requests clarification regarding discussion about a potential “vicious dog ordinance.”
By Rich Wicks | Times Vedette
During the April 16 regular meeting of the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors, the supervisors reviewed the draft of a cover letter regarding the county’s Request for Proposals (RFP) for EMS services. The discussion centered on what the deadline for RFPs should be in order to allow adequate time for them to be submitted while still allowing the county adequate time for the various action needed after they are received, in order to potentially have the EMS issue on ballots in the November election. After discussion, the supervisors approved the cover letter, with one change, making the deadline for RFPs June 14.

Kylie Rochholtz earned bronze in the 800-meter run. Panorama also took gold home in the 4×800 meter and 800 medley relays. Arilyan Steenblock also brought home a gold medal for Panorama for her toss in discus. | | 'Ghostbusters 2: The Frozen Empire' | | | | | | By Michael C. Woody | Times Vedette
The last Ghostbusters film, which featured a group of young kids related to an original Ghostbuster, was clever and a lot of fun. This sequel to a sequel is a bad misstep. Back in New York City, ghosts reappear to wreak havoc, and these kids and a handful of the original Ghostbusters take to the streets to save the city once again. I did not laugh once. The film is boring, not funny and a waste of time. Bill Murray arrives too late to save this “nail in the coffin” of the franchise. Grade: D-

| | B&B Marketplace brings modern flair to Panora | | | | | | Owner Kandi Meinecke opened her business March 11.
By Susan Thompson | Lake Panorama Times
For 26 years, Kandi Meinecke operated Britches ‘N’ Bows Country Store at her farm home on Willow Avenue northeast of Panora. In early March, that business morphed into B&B Marketplace, now housed at 106 E. Main in Panora. The building had been home to Quinnebago Outdoors and, before that, Ben’s Five and Dime.
“I never dreamed of moving my business to town; it didn’t appeal to me,” Meinecke says. “I was happy in my own space and doing what I wanted in the country. But when the Quinnebago auction sign appeared in the window, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I figured, now or never, go for it and expand your business.”

| A man walks into an empty bar, sits down and orders a drink.
He hears someone whisper, "Pssst...I like your tie." The man looks around but doesn't see anyone.
He hears it again, "Pssst...that color looks nice on you."
He asks the bartender, "Excuse me, but...are you speaking to me?"
The bartender rolls his eyes and says, "No, sorry about that. It's the peanuts... they're complimentary."
