Good Thursday Morning to You!

Welcome to an extra edition of the mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by subscribers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Loved your column on forgiveness (Teeter-totter, July 5, 2023). I have always told my children, friends and co-workers this — hating only hurts the hater, not the hated. Forgiving is not condoning their actions, rather, you letting it (hate) go. Have a great week!” - Kevin

Unfortunately, letting go of hate is the most difficult part. - Shane

“Thanks, Shane, for your very personal commentary on the difficulty of forgiveness (Teeter-totter, July 5, 2023). Three important faith lessons in my life have been: 1. Love keeps no records of wrong. 2. We must forgive one another, so we can be forgiven by the Father. 3. Vengeance is the Lord's.” - Brad

Those are great lessons. Thank you, Brad. - Shane

“Good morning, Shane. I wanted to drop a note and let you know how much I appreciated your column on the topic of forgiveness (Teeter-totter, July 5, 2023). There are several things we struggle with these days — empathy, encouragement, grace and, yes, forgiveness. The world would be a better place if we practiced all four. I know I can do better, so thank you for the motivational reminder. I enjoy your daily newsletter. Keep up the great work and sharing funny, inspirational and informative viewpoints. You have a gift for writing.” - Aaron

Most people agree that the world could — and should — be a better place, but few are willing to really try to change it. And, yes, it starts with each one of us. Thank you for the kind words.” -Shane

“Shane: Wonderful piece on July 5 (Teeter-totter, July 5, 2023). Thank you.” - Mike

“Balance. Timing. Force. I am still learning.” - Shane

“I thought aspartame only caused cancer in California (Possible carcinogen, July 6, 2023). Along with everything else.” - Mick

As long as it isn’t created on a gas stove, it’s fine. - Shane

Have a thoughtful Thursday, and thank for reading.

The much anticipated "Barbie" movie has spawned more spin-offs than any film before. There are already Barbie shopping parlors, Barbie restaurants and Barbie ice cream soda joints. All are reportedly popular to the point of waiting lists.

AMC Theaters has already sold 20,000 tickets to the July 21 opening day double feature of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer." We are not making that up. It is a five-and-a-half hour investment in teaching your little girl about the horror of atomic weapons.

The Dallas County Fair in Adel will feature a concert on July 14 by up-and-coming country musician Ian Munsick of Nashville.

Munsick made great strides early in his musical career. His duo with Cody Johnson, “Long Live Cowgirls,” was his first RIAA gold-certified single. With more than 100 million streams, he’s also been named “artist to watch” in 2023 by “Country Now” and “Music Mayhem.”

Munsick was raised in Wyoming and played music with his brothers at age 10 as part of the Munsick Boys. Early on, he realized he wanted a career in music.
