Good morning to you!

Perfect weather. Try finding agreement on what that actually means.

Some people like it hot. Sticky. Sweaty. Humid. The kind of weather where you step outside and your shirt immediately starts clinging to your back. The hotter, the better, they say. My friends in the South swear by it. They call it “summer.” I call it nature's sauna.

Others prefer the opposite. They enjoy snow on the ground, stocking hats pulled over their ears and breath that hangs in the air like a tiny cloud. Give them a roaring fireplace, a shovel and a fresh snowfall, and they are perfectly content. Our neighbors in Minnesota seem to embrace that lifestyle with remarkable enthusiasm. They might be the only people who consider a 25-degree day “warming up.”

Then there are those of us in the middle. We appreciate sunshine on our shoulders during the day but also enjoy a cool evening when a sweatshirt feels just right. We like opening the windows instead of turning on the furnace or the air conditioner. We want enough warmth for a walk after dinner without enough humidity to feel like we are swimming instead.

Lately, here in Iowa, we have been treated to that kind of weather. It has been difficult to complain. We have enjoyed comfortable temperatures, gentle breezes and just enough rain to keep everything looking fresh without washing away the weekend plans.

Well, mostly. The biggest downside is that the lawn seems to grow while we are watching it. Mowing once a week has become mowing twice a week. The grass has apparently decided that this is its moment to shine. If it grows any faster, I may have to start scheduling appointments just to keep up with it. Still, that is a small price to pay.

The occasional rain has cooled things off without turning every outing into a soggy mess. The sun has been warm enough to enjoy without leaving us looking like overcooked lobsters. And the landscape has exploded with more shades of green than you would find on a Sherwin-Williams paint display.

These are the days that remind us why so many people love living in the Midwest. We get a little bit of everything throughout the year, and when the weather hits this sweet spot, it is difficult to beat. The mornings invite another cup of coffee on the deck. The afternoons are made for ballgames, bike rides and backyard barbecues. The evenings practically beg for a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood.

Perfect weather may never earn a unanimous definition. But, if you ask me, a sunny day, a cool evening and a lawn that needs mowing instead of a driveway that needs shoveling comes quite close.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, and thank you for reading.

World Cup wonders
Fox Business has been tracking World Cup fans from abroad for tweets regarding the wonders of American hospitality. Some of those with a million plus views include: air conditioned stadiums; self-serve ice machines in restaurants; self-service ice machines in hotels; free soft drink refills; the Fort Worth Stockyards (formerly Hell's Half Acre); BBQ brisket and chicken fried steak in Texas; lobster in New England; cheesesteaks in Philadelphia; the large size of hotel rooms; free chips and salsa; sports bars; toilet bowls with water in them.

Also, many soccer fans are putting tens of thousands of miles on rental cars, driving instead of flying because they like American gas prices... Hotels are harder to find in Monterrey, Guadalajara and Vancouver than in U.S. cities. European fans, particularly Scottish and English fans, are confessing on social media that they have become hooked on ice-cold beer... Scottish fans consumed so much beer in Boston that bars ran out of beer for the first time since the Red Sox broke the curse of the Bambino.
