Good morning to you!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by readers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Good morning, Shane. Rodney Dangerfield gave his son a BB gun (Harmless fun?, April 1, 2026). His son gave him a sweatshirt with a target on its back. No respect.” - John

My buddy Ian and I used to play video games at the local gas station, and the guys behind the counter would shoot us in the rear end with BB guns while we had our backs to them. Imagine that happening today. - Shane

“Kids these days have the greatest toy of all, the internet (Harmless fun?, April 1, 2026). It’s great showing kids how to blow up things. Oh, and the stuff in Stretch Armstrong didn’t taste very good, in case you were wondering.” - Eddie

Try a little salt. - Shane

“Clackers (or Ker-Bangers) are a 1960s-1970s toy consisting of two hard plastic or acrylic balls on a string that are swung to smash together, creating a loud, rhythmic sound (Harmless fun?, April 1, 2026). Due to the balls shattering, cracking or breaking off, causing injuries like black eyes, nosebleeds and lacerations, they were famously banned and recalled in the early 1970s.” - Rich

Black eyes, nosebleeds and lacerations? Who says the 1970s weren’t fun? - Shane

“Shane, thinking about toys that were potential hazardous when growing up, it's a wonder we all lived through trying to do wheelies on bicycles, hitting baseballs with those deadly wooden sticks and sliding down snowy hills with the gravity-propelled missiles made with steel and wood (Harmless fun?, April 1, 2026)! How are any of us still alive?” - James

We slid down the snowy hills of cemeteries on innertubes. You had to stay on the path or it became more like bumper cars. - Shane

“I remember riding in the rear-facing back seat of a friend's family's station wagon to an ISU football game when I was a kid (The station wagon, April 7, 2026). After an hour of traveling backward, we got out, I puked in the grass lot, and it was all good! Go Cyclones!” - Brad

Was the sickness due to the car ride or the results of the Cyclone football game? - Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

FILM REVIEW
‘Hoppers’ is a return to Pixar’s more playful side

By David Rowley

Hoppers”
PG | 104 minutes
Director: Daniel Chong
Writers: Daniel Chong, Jesse Andrews, Jordan Harrison
Stars: Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm

With the likes of “GOAT,” “Zootopia 2” and the ongoing “Into the Spider-Verse” franchise, kids are eating good when it comes to feature-length animation. And “Hoppers” is no different, giving the kind of movie you enjoy from the first frame to the final credit. It reaches deep into Pixar’s established toolkit to make you chuckle, care, connect and (of course) cry. It is a return to form for the studio’s more playful side, blending a hysterically insane premise with a grounded heart that feels both earnest and wonderfully weird. ...
