Good morning to you!

As a child, I loved monster movies. There was something about those villains that made me fear them yet root for them at times, too. Frankenstein. The Wolfman. Dracula. The Mummy. The old black-and-white films showcased these monsters in ways the modern takes just can’t replicate.

But, times changed — and villains did, too. With modern technology, changing moral values and a loosening of film restrictions, the villains from movies became more graphic. More bloody. More gruesome. So much so that some of the villains became less scary and actually laughable. That wasn’t the intent, but, in many cases, it was the result, especially with Jason Voorhees (“Friday the 13th”) and Michael Myers (“Halloween”).

Meanwhile, a few movie villains are still downright creepy, even decades later. Here are a few who have kept me up a night or two.

Dolls are haunting — especially the ones in the movies that come to life. Chucky. Annabelle. M3GAN. I am creeped out just thinking about them. But, the doll that really freaks me out is from the “Trilogy of Terror” movies of 1975. The third of these three disturbing stories is about a sinister Native American tribal doll that comes to life and terrorizes a woman in her apartment. Yikes.

The devil may be the most troubling villain — and rightfully so. That’s why Damien from “The Omen” movies makes my list. “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Exorcist” may have started the trend, but Damien Thorn, a demonic offspring swapped into a politically powerful family as a baby, made it all too real and all too possible.

The “Poltergeist” movies were scary enough, but simply looking at Reverend Kane made me shiver. Still does.

One of my college roommates had a “Hellraiser” movie on VHS, and we watched it way too many times. The Pinhead character continues to linger in my mind.

Carrie” was a downright scary movie, even the sanitized version I watched on network TV as a kid. Carrie White reaching up through the dirt made most everyone jump.

I have not watched many horror movies in recent years, but I did catch Stephen King’s “IT,” and Pennywise is a legitimate villain of the modern age.

And, yes, Freddy Krueger from “A Nightmare On Elm Street” became silly in the later movies, much like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, but that original story about him getting into the dreams of the kids was definitely haunting to this teenage boy.

What creepy movie villains did I miss? Send me a note and let me know.

In the meantime, have a watchful Wednesday.

Is blue new? There is no mention of the color blue in ancient literature. The “Odyssey” mentions all other primary and secondary colors but not blue, and it was written about a 10 years-long sea voyage. Homer called the sky “iron” and “bronze” but never blue. He described the sea as “wine dark.” The oldest evidence that people recognized the color we call blue comes for Old Norse blár, in the days of the Vikings. It first described the sky, the sea and the blueberry.

Couples often celebrate the milestones of their relationships: the day they met, their wedding, anniversaries … And the date of their engagement is often a highlight: an event often given much thought and planning. An occasion of romance, joy and anticipation of the journey ahead.

Speechless
When it comes to impressing a hopeful fiancée, Zach Jakalski’s proposal is hard to beat.

“Yeah, I set the bar very high for all my friends,” Zach says proudly. “They’re not too happy about it.”

Zach proposed to Madi Gremler at the Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy. It was night, so the crowd had died down, and the temperature had cooled. There was even a quartet playing music outside at a nearby cafe. ...
