Good morning to you!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by readers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Good morning, Shane. As I've shared with you in the past, I enjoy your Big Green Umbrella Media publications and especially your columns. Thanks and please keep them coming. This pharmacist recommends exactly what you've shared and I would add ‘gut health’ as another way to keep those bugs away (The cold relapse, Feb. 23, 2026). A high-fiber diet, or, in many cases, simply adding Benefiber or Metamucil, can be super beneficial. Besides, who doesn't feel amazing after a good poo?” - Michael

I can’t argue with that. - Shane

“Greetings, Shane. Sorry about your perpetual cold symptoms (The cold relapse, Feb. 23, 2026). That nagging relentlessness is an anchor to your usual drive and focus. Not that I recommend it, but a friend from long ago when queried about how he got rid of his cold said, ‘Well, John, I take a fifth of gin, drink it as fast as I can, and when I wake up, the cold's gone.’ I have never tried that remedy.” - John

That sounds like trading one headache for another. - Shane

“Avoid human contact (The cold relapse, Feb. 23, 2026). Stay in bed for a week — or three. Shower twice a day. Put chicken noodle soup on IV. Drink plenty of fruit juices and fluids to rid the system of the toxin. Wear a mask. Take over the counter cold remedies, which reduce the pain but don't take away the problem. These methods and normal work hours don't necessarily work but, do you want to get better or not?” - Rex

I always wondered why The Lone Ranger never got sick. Must have been the mask. - Shane

“Honesty (Qualities of a great salesperson, Feb. 24, 2026). High ‘say-do’ ratio. Know when to back off.” - Chuck

All good qualities for salespeople — and for everyone. - Shane

“I'm still waiting for my first vehicle with a tray table (Cupholders, Feb. 25, 2026).” - Brad

I have a 1973 conversion van in mind for you. - Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

‘I do’
Residents share their marriage proposal stories.

By Ashley Rullestad

Couples often celebrate the milestones of their relationships: the day they met, their wedding, anniversaries … And the date of their engagement is often a highlight: an event often given much thought and planning. An occasion of romance, joy and anticipation of the journey ahead.

The game of life
Heather Anderson and her husband, Nick, are avid gamers — board and card games, not video games. At the time they got engaged, they were especially fond of the show “Family Guy” and had purchased a “Family Guy”-themed version of The Game of Life.

One evening, Heather went to see a movie with a friend and returned to their apartment to find that Nick had prepared dinner, which was not unusual. Afterward, he suggested they play The Game of Life, and she happily agreed, as it has been one of her favorites. ...

FROM YAHOO SPORTS: Free agent QB buzz: As front-office executives and player representatives meet across lobbies, hotel rooms and hallways of the NFL scouting combine, an annual tradition returns. Speculation about teams’ next moves and players’ next destinations often far outpaces the reality of deals that will materialize in the coming weeks and months. But the speculation is not usually emerging from thin air. More often, it reflects the conversations teams are having with each other and with player agents, as each party susses out what’s possible by discussing the many plans that are not. ... READ MORE
