Good morning to you!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by readers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Oh, I feel for you and the demise of Tinker (A boy and his dog, Feb. 5, 2026). Our very old dog had been a part of our family for many years when we finally took a family vacation. We left Old George in the care of a neighbor boy, and George would follow the boy on his paper route. One day the paper route started as usual, but George never came back. We never did know what happened. Daddy did some inquiring with authorities, but... Was he on a route to Minnesota to find our family? Or was it just his time, and he just found a corner to die? That was 75 years ago, and I still miss him. It helps to have lots of pictures of him. I hope you had some of Tinker, too.” - Margaret

Oddly, I don’t have any photos of Tinker. But, you have encouraged me to see if I can round some up. - Shane

“When I was 10 years old, our old dog disappeared (A boy and his dog, Feb. 5, 2026). I did not have a strong liking for that dog, even though my older brother and sister did. We went looking for a new dog. Money was always tight, so I expected we would just get a free mixed breed dog. My parents surprised me when we got to a farm that raised purebred German Shepherds. They said they had some pups that would not meet police dog specifications, so we (mostly I) got a pup to raise. I have always thought that German Shepherds are the smartest dogs because many times I wondered who was smarter: a 10-year-old boy or a dog smart enough to figure out what a 10-year-old boy was trying to teach it.” - George

Dogs are certainly much smarter than we may think. - Shane

“Good morning, Shane. As a person who gave his jobs his best (Passion and excitement, Feb. 10, 2026), it was very frustrating and discouraging to be told by colleagues to stop doing any extra effort tasks for our clients. Why? ‘Because they are going to start expecting that from the rest of us.’” - John

A Chinese proverb says, “Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those doing it.” - Shane

“I had a boss in the 1970s who used to say, ‘Anyone coming to work without enthusiasm will be fired with enthusiasm!’ He, too, was that way until he died (Passion and excitement, Feb. 10, 2026). RIP, Floyd Kuklin.” - John

With a name like that, he had to be enthusiastic. - Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

Breaking news
