Good morning to you!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by readers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Shane, your information on sports readership surprises me (Super Bowl celebrations, Jan. 6, 2026). However, I always considered myself a true NFL fan. Then, a few years ago with the Packers out of the playoff picture, I found myself barely paying attention to the NFL. One more example of how we are not always what we say we are but we are always what we do.” - Mike

Go, Pack, go! Or something like that. - Shane

“I will be watching the game until halftime, and then I will switch it to Turning Point USA’s ‘All American Halftime.’ Then, back to the game when it is over (Super Bowl celebrations, Jan. 6, 2026). I love football, but I have avoided halftimes. I can live without the commercials. And about the performers, I hate half-dressed people who are touching places my momma told me never to touch in public.” - Donna

I tend to agree. The halftime shows appeal to me less and less each year. - Shane

“Shane, my wife and I and several close friends go to Las Vegas each year to watch the Super Bowl game (Super Bowl celebrations, Jan. 6, 2026). It's always exciting because fans come from all over to root for their team. Some of our best memories were when the Chiefs came from behind to win their first Super Bowl against the 49ers and Ben Niemann (Iowa Hawkeye undrafted free agent) blitzed QB Garoppolo and disrupted the play to force a punt that was crucial in the Chiefs’ come-from-behind victory. We decided to go to Vegas in the early 2000s because we would get several invitations for watch parties and didn't want to offend any of our friends by declining their invitations. We invited all who could to join us in Vegas.” - Mike

Now, that sounds like fun. - Shane

“I have not watched Super Bowl in years (Super Bowl celebrations, Jan. 6, 2026). Don’t care. We are over-footballed. I’m sick over football games bumping other TV programs. Football, football, football. No wonder we have crummy legislators. We pay 50 times more attention to sports than what is happening in government. The ads will not influence me. Any food ads just add to the high prices. All that hoopla, for what? Overpaid players spoiled to the hilt. The last time I attended a party game, I went into the kitchen to listen to the women who had more interesting talk. Believe it.” - Glen

So, I guess we’re not going to a football game together? - Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

Fish & Seafood Discoveries

Americans don't eat enough fish and seafood. Less than 10% of us consume the 26 pounds a year and twice a week servings that are recommended by almost all health guardians. Fish and seafood are an amazing source of omega 3's essential for brain and heart health. To combat this national deficiency, Daily Umbrella resolves this new year to encourage more fish consumption via a weekly Friday discovery, at least through Lent's kickoff.
Our pick of the week is sturgeon grilled on the amazing Josper coal grill at Oak Park and served here with cauliflower, shallots, potato puree, truffle crema, smoked trout roe, and lemon thyme beurre monté for $48. Sturgeon has a veal like texture that makes it ideal for the Josper.
