Good morning to you!

Welcome to another edition of the mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by readers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Good column you wrote (Tough decisions, Feb. 26, 2025). It is hard to argue against efficiency unless you’re one of those creating the problem. Yes, change is hard! Also, hard to argue against crime reduction, illegal border crossings or reducing costs… but some are trying.” - Mike

Some things just shouldn’t be political, but, unfortunately, most everything seems to end up that way. - Shane

“I enjoyed your column about wires, cords and cables (The wires box, March 3, 2025). This was my husband’s collection, plus the next space to the right between the studs. The boxes to the left are full of less than likely to be needed. He has passed away, so the cords and cables did not come with me when I moved from Denison to Adel last fall. Thanks for the laugh and confirmation that he had others like him.” - Linda

I believe I met your husband at the CCC (cord collectors convention). - Shane

“You wrote about showers this week (Shower at night, March 25, 2025). How about shaving? Daily? Three times a week? Electric? Straight edge? Not at all? I don’t like to shave. Takes too long, and my face really doesn’t enjoy it. I take advantage of ‘No Shave November’ by extending it to include any month that ends in ‘ber.’ My wife has grown to endure that time of the year, and my face enjoys the time off. Plus, I am sometimes mistaken for our friend who lives at the North Pole, which is fun, too. What do I do with the beard hair when I finally shave it off in late December? Well, that’s a story for another day!” - Chuck

Shaving these days involves too much fine sculpting. - Shane

“I started collecting names, numbers and addresses when I began work at the Auditorium in Sioux City close to 45 years ago now, when I first met the tour manager and training for the Harlem Globetrotters (Little black books, March 26, 2025). I started and still have the original address book. There have been several more editions, some very blurry. Many entries have since passed on to the great arena in the sky. I moved onto rolodexes and still have a collection, as I was taught to do the work yourself because if an assistant or an office-type did the work on city time, it was the property of the city. Now with computers, the resources to look up more old souls continues as a delightful way to reconnect with one’s history.” - Rex

You should save those little black books in your wires box. - Shane

Have a thoughtful Thursday, and thanks for reading.

FEATURE STORY
Here come the cubbies!

By Cyote Williams

The Iowa Cubs team is an institution in Des Moines. I-Cub fans pack the ballpark all season long and even watch at home. The fan loyalty is evidenced by CITYVIEW readers who voted for the Cubbies as the Best Local Sports Team and Best Local Outdoor Sporting Event for yet another year in the Best of Des Moines poll.

The wins were not where team officials and fans wanted them to be last season, but that does not change the palpable feeling of excitement currently running through the organization. The Cubs farm system is once again loaded with some of the best young prospects in baseball, and the people behind the scenes have been putting together exciting promotions to make fans feel engaged throughout the season. We spoke with a few of the I-Cubs movers and shakers to see why they are excited for the 2024-2025 MiLB season. ...
