Good morning to you!

It’s good to be busy. It’s better than the alternative, because who wants to be bored? If you are retired, I get it. You earned the right to have every day feel like Saturday. But the rest of us need to be busy. It’s good for us.

When you ask people how they are doing, many like to simply say “busy.” Some then offer 20 minutes of excruciatingly painful detail. The best responses, though, are the short ones that make you chuckle. Here are a few to consider using next time someone asks how you are.

“I am busier than a moth in a sweater closet.” That's a great reply, unless you have a hole in your sweater.

“I am busier than a squirrel in a nut factory.” My friends named Fisher take the nut very seriously. Squirrels? Not so much.

“I am busier than a wolf in a chicken farm.” I love this one, but I can’t help but think of the chicken hawk in the Looney Tunes cartoons.

“I am busier than a vampire at a blood bank.” You can count on this one bringing a laugh.

“I am busier than a salmon swimming upstream.” Many of us may feel this way some days.

“I am busier than a hippy in an incense store.” More Cheech. Less Chong.

“I am busier than a snake in a birdcage.” This is good… if you are the snake.

“I am busier than a cat at a laser show.” I don’t care if you love cats or not, this one’s funny.

“I am busier than a termite in a log cabin.” Another great response, unless you have had to deal with termites. Then, there is nothing funny about this at all.

“I am busier than a blind cat in a sandbox.” This one creates an instant visual for some reason — and a strong desire to stay out of sand.

“I am busier than a politician in a church confessional.” We shouldn’t throw stones, but after another overwhelmingly tiring election, we can’t resist.

Which ones did I miss? Do you have one to add? If you are not too busy, send it my way.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, and thanks for reading.

FILM REVIEW
Nostalgia for the 1990s hits an all-time high in ‘Y2K’

By David Rowley

Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter’s “Y2K” is a throwback to the dope show that was the late 1990s — packed with outrageous humor, absurd situations and a hefty dose of nostalgia. It’s a movie that knows its audience — those who lived through dial-up internet, pop-up-filled monitor screens, Sharpie-covered mix discs, and Millennium Bug hysteria. Forget Easter eggs; audiences are treated to a plateful of “member berries” that feel like a warm, chaotic hug.  ...

Woebegone Wednesday
Pig butchering — it's not what it used to be. Wall Street Journal published the results of its investigation into world public enemy Wan Kuok-koi. That notorious Chinese criminal perfected "pig butchering," a form of scams that U.S. officials say are costing Americans billions of dollars a year. In pig-butchering schemes, scammers meet people online, win their trust and persuade them to pour money into bogus investments. The scams are called pig butchering because the swindlers “fatten” their victims by building relationships and then “butcher” them by taking their money and ghosting them. Thousands of Americans are believed to have been victims.

Faux meat and fish — is there still a future? 2024 was disastrous for faux meat companies. Beyond Meat lost over half its value (58%) and Oatly Group lost 44% of its in 2024. Fox Business suggested that the future is now in lab-grown seafood. Both the high prices and sustainability of seafood play in its favor. Aqua Cultured Seafood uses cellulose (fruit fiber) to imitate seafood. Michelin starred Mama Delia in Chicago is using it to good reviews.

An unforgettable ride
Residents share the joy of their first car.

By Rachel Harrington

What kids, strapped into the backseats of their parents’ cars, gazing through the gaps between the front seats and watching the road ahead, don’t think how great it will be when they are in the driver’s seat? And not just any driver’s seat, but the seat of their very own car. The power of the machine in their control. The freedom to choose the destination. The total control over the stereo. It’s no wonder people’s memories of their first auto stay vivid, and the stories remain a thrill be told.

A special wedding gift
Ella Moss-Gross says her dad was “extremely” into cars when she was growing up, and he passed that love of cars on to her.

“My dad bought a TJ 2001 Jeep Wrangler for me when I was first starting to drive around at 14 years old,” she says. “He found out that one of his customers had a Jeep for sale that they drove around their farm to check on their cows. It was a little rough around the edges. I drove everywhere in it. To have a vehicle like that in high school that I could take the top off and carry my friends around in brought so much freedom to me.”
