The world of artificial intelligence (AI) is closing in on us… and quickly. For those who don’t know, AI is defined as the intelligence of machines or software, as opposed to the intelligence of living beings.
Some of you reading this may be using AI for a number of business and personal purposes now. Others of you may have no idea what it is. Meanwhile, all of us are being subjected to it in ways we don’t even know about.
Reporters, photographers, song writers, authors, videographers, poets, speech writers and content creators of all sorts are concerned, as they should be. I am, too.
We live in a society today where words like real, genuine, organic and natural often require official certification before they can be used on product labels. Other terms including chemical-free, pesticide-free and non-GMO add to the confusion. Maybe a similar, yet simpler, approach could be taken to all AI-generated content. It could be something as straightforward as a disclaimer on all AI-created material that says, “This content was generated through artificial intelligence. Proceed with caution.”
Adding that label may sound silly to some of you, at least until you feel cheated when something you created is used by others without your permission or when your image or likeness is created or used in ways you did not approve. By having the required label, content creators and their copyright attorneys would at least have a better starting point on who to file claims against.
I am generally not the litigious type, but I do believe in giving credit (and compensation) where credit (and compensation) are due.
I realize some of you don’t see the harm in AI. You soon will. Generations prior were told that smoking cigarettes was good for them, and many believed it. In 1966, the United States began requiring health warnings on cigarette packages. Has it made a difference? Maybe. Maybe not. But smokers have clearly been warned, and cigarette manufacturers have been held accountable.
I suggest the same to happen with AI — a clear label on each artificially generated work expressing a strong warning for those who use it to do so at their own risk, as using the content may subject them to copyright infringement.
And, just for fun, the following phrases could be added: NOT real, NOT genuine, NOT organic and NOT natural.
Have a terrific Tuesday, and thanks for reading.

From the March issue of CITYVIEW | | Taxi company experiences resurgence
By Colson Thayer
Patrick Stall began driving for Des Moines’ Yellow Cab Company 10 years ago. He joined as an independent contractor to earn some extra cash while finishing his degree. Little did he know his side gig would turn him into a career cab driver working 40 to 50 hours a week behind the wheel.
At 6:30 a.m., Stall arrives at Yellow Cab’s station at 1550 E. Army Post Road. After checking out one of the company’s vehicles, he runs through a pre-trip inspection. He examines the car’s oil, transmission, tires, lights and more to ensure he and his passengers will experience a safe ride. By 6:45 a.m., Stall usually has someone on the southside needing a ride uptown. From there, he lets the map decide where to go. Morning commuters keep him busy until about 8 a.m. There’s a lull from 8-11 a.m., then business picks up again. From then on, he’s busy taking people to and from appointments, home from work, from the airport and completing other miscellaneous rides. By the end of a decent day, Stall completes between 20 and 25 trips and drives more than 250 miles. | | READ MORE |

Shanghai and Hong Kong consumers are complaining that farmed fish, which have replaced wild caught Japanese fish in China's import war with Japan, taste inferior. Let us know if you can taste a difference. (Newsroom Tokyo)
So far, 830,000 salmon have been found dead after release into the Klamath River by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). The agency blames "gas bubble disease" contracted when their fish passed through "old infrastructure" (a dam gate) it seeks to destroy. Fishing enthusiasts and residents say the fish might have been killed by the murky water created by dam removal. Betting odds suggest the CDFW will win regardless of whether they are right or wrong - the PC mood in Cali is that dams are evil and must go. (SF Gate, TNWD)
