“Shane, I read your column with great interest (Sick days, Nov. 14, 2023). I agree that COVID has more people calling in sick (with any symptom closely related to COVID). Let me say this upfront — I don't enjoy working around the workplace hero that brings their germs to work. But, I have a question, does ‘sick and tired’ of your boss count as a valid reason to call in sick?” - Kevin
Well, we would likely agree there are people who are truly sick and need to stay home, and then there are people who are looking for an excuse to sleep in. More importantly, there are people with serious illnesses who need paid time off. Sick and tired of their boss? Might be time to find a new job. - Shane
“Working for the State of Iowa, we could donate sick leave for those who had a serious illness or new employees who did not have any built up to cover their illness (Sick days, Nov. 14, 2023). That is a nice benefit.” - John
That is a very caring and giving benefit. What a great idea. - Shane
“We send out about 20 Christmas cards each year (Christmas cards, Nov. 15, 2023). They all have religious themes and religious messages. Our Knights of Columbus council sells religious Christmas cards, religious yard signs, etc. after weekend masses.” - George
Tis the reason for the season. - Shane |

"Here is your toaster without a cord. (No cords, Nov. 21, 2023)” - Jeff
Let me guess. The wind is your hair dryer? - Shane
“Shane, don’t forget, you will need a new adaptor to charge your phone in your car, too (No cords, Nov. 21, 2023).” - Ron
Or I could hard-wire it! - Shane
Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.
