Good Friday Morning to You!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by subscribers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Maybe a few more spankings would toughen up a soft generation of kids.” (Birthday spankings, July 19, 2023).” - David

Maybe. But, more likely, you would have a soft generation of kids contacting Human Services. Shane

“ ‘Iowa - Nice!’ (Iowa slogan, July 24, 2023)” - Brad

Very nice. - Shane

“Change the state theme from ‘Fields of Opportunities’ to ‘Fields of Dreams’ (Iowa slogan, July 24, 2023). To save money on the 68 interstate road signs, use white paint to cover the current ‘Opportunities’ and when that dries, use black paint for the word ‘Dreams.’ Simple.” - Susan

Sounds like you have done this before? - Shane

“Just an idea, ‘Fields of Freedom’  or ‘Freedom’s Fields’ if that would be cheaper (Iowa slogan, July 24, 2023).” - Donna

Good idea, but “cheaper” isn’t typically one of the deciding factors when taxpayer money is used. - Shane

“ ‘Iowa Life Is Good.’ (Iowa slogan, July 24, 2023)” - Gary

Good? Not great? - Shane

“I always liked ‘Iowa: A Place to Grow.’ I’m sure we can find the old signs in storage somewhere. (Iowa slogan, July 24, 2023)” - Patty

Those are being saved for the legalization of marijuana. - Shane

“Shane, I have no doubt your readers will come up with great slogans (Iowa slogan, July 24, 2023). I bet the state could have offered a $500 prize for the best slogan and ended up with a better one. Then maybe another $500 contest for the artwork. A native Iowan would be proud to sign off on that intellectual property with no further compensation simply to see their input posted all over Iowa. Let's hope an Iowa company gets to replace the signs!” - Dana

Yes, let’s hope so. - Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

Partial to Mustangs

By Jackie Wilson

PJ Mayfield has many connections to Urbandale. She worked for Holiday Illahee Hills Independent Living as the activities coordinator for four years and at Bob Brown Chevrolet for five years. While employed at Bob Brown's, she participated in the Urbandale Citizen's Police Academy.

These days, instead of selling cars, she spends her time cruising around in her Mustang.

Until recently, she had two Mustangs.

PJ and Chuck have had many Mustangs over their 44 years together. Their last Mustang was a 2015 Anniversary Edition GT 6 speed.

"He bought me Betty to drive because he wouldn't let me park the 2015 at the grocery store,” she laughs.
